23 September - Some participants on Discord compare the pixels of the "Star Map" with whales clicks

Updates on the decoding process: some participants on Discord compare the pixels of the "Star Map" with whales clicks. Another participant overlaps the pixels with stars in M44. A collaborative approach starts prevailing over the individual pursuit.

Ros and I have been thinking about the possibility that if that message was a whale song. Ros found an interesting project: https://www.projectceti.org/
I did the sonification of the data17.bin file directly by creating one whale click from each numerical value. And just to create the atmosphere, I planted those clicks in a "marine" soundscape.

Not to bad with m44… I know that with so may stars we can always find an alignment

@Sparta | Phrenic
If you explain the process exactly to me , maybe I can try something.
I don't guarantee that I will succeed but at least I can give it a shot 😃

Ros gave the idea to look at the data from the point of view of whales. The picture at the top shows a part of data17.bin, i.e. the star map in 8-bit, and below is a picture taken from the sperm whale's voice. Spooky 🙂 Just like the clicks of a real whale, the data also has repeated clicks at regular intervals. I haven't gotten around to doing an autocorrelation yet on whether they actually repeat at the same intervals.

Yes, finally there is someone considering six signs. I proposed that already in the beginning of last month: Map overlay

From all the messages I have seen in the last two weeks it seems that we are heading slowly towards the finish line. Everyone of us has a little piece of the puzzle, a part of the decoding solution.

There is quite a lot of work to do and we have to overcome the challenge to put all bits and pieces together from each and everyone.

You said, that each value or each pixel you draw is non zero decimal value of a byte. At least I understood it this way. Is it possible to highlight somehow with your quick ascii approach all the value which are x = 2^n where x is the decimal value?

in the italian channel when we discussed about the binary like something "compressed" with multiple layers, I thought that the information bits could be what we labeled as 0. The 1 instead would be the empty space. I wondered if we could have multiple (2 or more) overlying star maps. Each layer would have more empty space than visible in the blended star map, but the overlapping hide this pixels (let consider for simplicity like pixel of square images overlayed) and show only the empty pixels common for all layers. Special empty pixels like the 2x2 dots could be the "joints" where I apply the transformations of header and footer, I don't know..
well just to say that if we want (and we need) more information, the 1 dots are not enough and reverse all sounds more logical (at least for me)
